2022 Ford Expedition
Space, comfort and versatility are the three qualities that best distinguish the Ford Expedition. This full-size SUV offers various options and amenities that make it the perfect companion for family trips or more athletic adventures. For 2022, the large vehicle has been given a makeover, with a fresh exterior, a complete interior redesign, and even a new, more adventurous version, the Timberline.
Of course, we can't ignore the size of the vehicle, and even more so of its slightly longer Max version. The SUV offers space for three rows of seats in both cases but doesn't neglect cargo capacity. It's precisely because of its size that the Expedition is a vehicle to discover as your needs grow.
A welcoming interior
When you're this big, you can't help but be welcoming. The Ford Expedition's cockpit offers a capacity of 7 or 8 passengers, depending on the configuration chosen. In fact, you can opt for a second-row bench seat or captain's chairs, which further increases occupant comfort.
Because we don't want to compromise the vehicle's storage capacity, each model has an electrically folding third row that can be controlled from the cargo area or the rear seats. The second and third rows fold completely flat for a flat floor, making it easy to load items. As a result, it offers a minimum trunk space of 20.9 cubic feet, which can grow to a capacity of 104.6 cubic feet once all the seats are folded.
The big Expedition also has a large dashboard that includes traditional buttons for the climate controls and stereo. Depending on the version, the materials are increasingly refined and of high quality. The top-of-the-line versions offer leather upholstery, heated seats and, at the height of comfort, massaging seats. Long rides become a pleasure for the front occupants.
Entertainment is a must
While the cabin is imposing, it can be transformed into an actual concert hall when equipped with the Bang & Olufsen Unleashed audio system, with its 22 speakers. With its 1,080 watts of power, 360-degree sound and exceptional subwoofer, it turns your short trip into a musical experience.
The Ford Expedition is home to the SYNC 4 system, the latest generation of Ford's advanced system to control these audio functions and the full range of comfort and entertainment features. Housed in the center of the console in a 15.5-inch touchscreen (12 inches standard), it offers the ability to accept live updates. It also features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless capabilities. A subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspot is also available.
Rear-seat passengers aren't left out with the optional presence of an infotainment system that they can control at their leisure via touchscreens in the second row.
Power to go
The Expedition is equipped with a twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre V6 and a 10-speed automatic transmission that combine with all-wheel drive. The standard engine produces 380-horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, but on Limited models, that power is increased to 400- horsepower and 480 pound-feet. An even more powerful version is available on the Timberline trim and Limited with the Performance Stealth package that increases those numbers to 440-horsepower and 510 pound-feet.
The power also allows for towing, as the Expedition can tow 9,200 pounds and has the optional Pro Trailer Back-Up assist technology to make backing up with a trailer easier.
Another technology, the BlueCruise, is also added to the top-of-the-line versions. It allows the vehicle to drive itself on roads already approved by Ford. The Co-Pilot 360 is also de rigueur, with its range of driving aids that make journeys safer.
As for the new Timberline model, it has a much more rugged look, highlighted by 33-inch off-road tires and increased ride height. It also gets a Track Assist system that gives the SUV a tighter turning radius by braking the inside rear wheel in tight turns at low speeds when the vehicle is in four-wheel drive and on soft surfaces.
Stately yet comfortable, stylish yet powerful, the Ford Expedition is both the adventure vehicle and the family vehicle that will meet all your needs.
